How To Follow People On Twitter
So you finally joined the new media world and want to know how to follow people on Twitter. The social networking phenomenon has changed the way readers obtain their news and entertainment, and it's up to you to know where to find that information. Follow these simple tips to learn how to follow people and build up your real-time tweet library.
- Find people. Use the search field on the Twitter webpage to find accounts and profiles. You can search for people by their usernames or real names, but you can also browse through suggestions on the website based on the different categories provided. Choose any profile that interests you and click on the icon to follow the selected Twitter user.
- See who's following you. If your privacy settings have been set to "public," having a Twitter account opens up your profile to people being able to find you. Click on the followers underneath your username on the Twitter website to see the people who follow you, and follow them back by clicking on the "Follow" icon.
- Trending topics and keywords: the endless resource. One of the best ways to follow Twitter users who have common interests as you is to find them with keywords and trending topics. Click on any of the day's topics on the right-hand column of the Twitter home page. Users who have tweeted any of the day's top stories and keywords will appear on the next page, and from this list, you can choose any user to follow.
- The retweet option. Some usernames may appear on your feed list that you may not recognize. These are Twitter users who have been "retweeted" by users that you do follow. You can choose to receive their updates by selecting them on your list and following them as well. Whether it's a name or profile you recognize or it's a stranger with an interesting perspective, click on the retweet comment and select the profile to follow the Twitter user.
