If you've just started indoor rock climbing, you may be wondering how to get better at indoor rock climbing. Indoor rock climbing can be a fun activity for many people, but just like with any activity or sport you want to succeed and do your absolute best. Tackling intermediate walls is a start, but now you are ready to move to more intermediate rock climbing walls. There are common problems with climbing technique that hold many rock climbers back. To learn how to get better at indoor rock climbing there are a few techniques and tips that you can follow.

  1. Position your body correctly. One of the best ways to climb the wall effectively is to keep your body as close to the wall as possible. Although this is a lot easier said than done, it will make a huge difference if you can do this. Keeping your body close to the wall, not only helps improve your balance, but also makes easier to ascend up the indoor rock wall. Turning your hips from side to side while climbing, the whole way up, instead of climbing straight like you are climbing a ladder will make rock climbing easier as well. This will help you to use less energy and to move more effectively up the wall.
  2. Keep those arms straight. Your pulling arm muscles become more tired the longer you spend climbing with your arms bent instead of straight. If you can keep those arms straight you will notice that they will get less tired. You should try to adjust your body completely beneath your shoulders, if at all possible with your arms totally straight. Bends those legs for support to accommodate you when necessary. Your legs should hold the majority of your weight. You want to put as less weight as possible on your arms. It will take some time to get used to keeping your arms straight, but work on this between every move.
  3. Don't climb alone. Join a climbing club or group, or get a partner. When you are trying to get better at indoor rock climbing do not do it alone. Make sure you bring a friend or family member to climb or at least be there to support you. You can even mingle with other climbers at the indoor rock climbing facility. If you see another climbers doing well, you can ask for advice or assistance on how to improve your rock climbing. This will help give you motivation and keep you encouraged.
