  1. A physical training plan. Depending on your condition, the amount of time to be spent training will vary, but everyone must train specifically for soccer. So go get some advice. If you can´t afford a gym or a Personal Trainer, you can always get a book. There are lots on soccer training, some of them great.
  2. A pitch to go kicking. Even before you get in shape, you need to go running after the ball often, to catch some timing and to have some fun.
  3. A group of people to kick with. You can go playing with your friends at school, your office partners, or whoever is playing in the park, but soccer is a team sport, and as such it needs to be practiced with other players. So, next time you are at the park and see someone kicking, don´t be shy and join them. A good practice is always offering to play with your ball.
  4. Some equipment. Soccer shoes are not strictly necessary for a game in the park on a Sunday, but if you are planning on improving your game and playing regularly, investing some money in a pair of soccer shoes will pay back in comfort and performance.

The steps to get better at soccer are:

  1. Train hard on your cardio, strength and speed. Again, it´s always better to train wit someone telling you what to do, but books can provide some good ideas. Split your training sessions to improve those three aspects, always mixing them evenly.
  2. Play a lot. Familiarity with the ball is the key to confidence, so play with it even at home. Feel how it bounces, kick with your weak foot and practice your headers.
  3. Join a group to play with. This way, you can improve your team game, and you might join a league, making it easier to play regularly.

Even if your purpose is not becoming a professional player, getting better at soccer will make you have more fun will exercising a lot.
