It's a good idea to learn about how to get birth control for your girlfriend when the time is not right for a baby, or you simply don't want children. It's one way to be really responsible about any chance of getting pregnant, and avoiding all together for the most part.

Here's what you need to get it:

  • Insurance for your girlfriend
  • Obstitrition
  • Free clinic
  1. Medical insurance. A lot of insurance will pay for basic birth control pills. Your girlfriend has to look into her insurance to find out what ob's are covered under her insurance and how much of birth control is covered. It may also depend on what kind of birth control she wants to get or what works best for her body.
  2. Schedule an appointment. Your girlfriend needs to see her obstetrician and get examined. She needs to let her doctor know she's sexually active and needs a form of birth control. Her doctor will give her a sample and have her check back to see how it is working. Or if the pill doesn't work for her, she needs to ask about other forms of birth control. A good ob will work with her. Be part of the appointment. Depending on your relationship, it'll be nice for your girlfriend if you are supportive of getting the birth control that works for her.
  3. Free clinic. If you and your girlfriend can't afford insurance or to see an obstetrician, take her to a free clinic. You'll have to look up where your nearest free clinic is, how you qualify, what to expect, what they offer for birth control and so on. But you will need to look up some of this information anyway.

Getting birth control is a good precautionary step to take to avoid getting in to a mess no matter where you are in life. Luckily, there is usually outside help if you don't have access to medical insurance like a lot of people don't these days. Make sure you and your girlfriend keep an eye out on how her body reacts to what ever form of birth control she chooses.
