Looking for information on how to get a football scholarship? Competition for football scholarships is fierce between high school students, because there are only 120 division I football schools in the United States, and these schools can only offer up to 85 scholarships each. That may sound like a lot of scholarships, but they have to be split between the thousands and thousands of high school football players that want to play at the college level.

To get a football scholarship, you will need:

  • Good grades
  • To be fit
  • To get yourself recognized
  1. Good Grades. To get a football scholarship, you need to have good high school grades. To keep a football scholarship, you need to keep getting good grades while you are in college. Whether you are looking to play for a division I, II, or III football team, colleges are going to look for high school students that have a GPA of at least 3.0, which is a B, and SAT scores of at least 1,000.
  2. Be Fit. Colleges don't have time to whip their football players into shape. To get a football scholarship, you need to be in good shape and you need to prove that to college coaches. Most high school football players aspire to play at the division I level. Regardless of what position you play, if you want to get a division I football scholarship, you should be at least 6 foot tall, weigh at least 185 pounds, run a 40 in 4.5 to 5.1 seconds, be able to bench press at least 235 pounds, and be able to squat at least 315 pounds.
  3. Get Yourself Recognized. How are colleges going to know who you are if you don't attempt to get yourself recognized? If you want to get a football scholarship, you need to attend as many ranking tournaments as you can. Even if college football coaches don't attend these ranking tournaments, they will watch film of the tournaments and review the statistics.

Tip:

To enhance your chances of getting a football scholarship, you need to stay out of trouble while you are in high school. Colleges are not looking to give scholarships to those who have a criminal record.
