You see a girl and want to know how to get her number. You are going to have to prepare a little bit. Just walking up there and asking for it is not necessarily going to get you anywhere. The goal is to get a real number, her name and to know that she will actually be looking forward to your phone call. Her are some tips on how to get her number.

1. Lay the groundwork. You should not just walk up and say "can I have your number?" You need to introduce yourself, talk to her, show you actually have some interest in her and what she has to say. 
2. Be confidant. Sure, women do think shy guys are cute, but they do not want to date someone who is going to sit in the corner quiet all the time. Same goes for cocky, over-confidant guys. Just be mellow and be yourself, know you could be a great catch for her and give her ever reason to believe it.
3. Tell her something great. As in, lead up to asking for her number by telling her about some great place you would like to take her. Use the basis of your conversation as a key. If she mentioned art offer to take her to the new art exhibit in town. If she mentioned a love of wine offer to take her to a wine party. When she says she would love to go you have set up the perfect time to get her number, or swap numbers.
4. Always give her your number too. Some people do not answer their phones if they do not know who it is that is calling. So make sure you swap numbers with her, rather than just getting hers. Get her number then give her yours, letting her know that she can call you any time. She just may have been smitten enough she will call before you get the chance to call her!
