How To Get A Job In Business
Every business job candidate needs to know how to get a job in business. Whether you are looking for a career in accounting, finance, marketing or management consulting, landing that dream job in business can seem like a challenging task. But if you develop a plan of action and follow through, you soon will be sitting behind that desk or in that corner office with a fulfilling and satisfying job in business.
- Get a business degree. You can start off by getting an Associates (two-year) degree in business, but you will up your chances of getting a job in business if you go the four-year route. Business degrees are usually called Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degrees. You will have an even better chance of getting a job in business if you get a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).
- Pass a certification exam. Examples of certifications include the CPA, CMA and CFA.
- Perfect your resume. Prepare your resume and route it to one or more professionals who can provide you with a resume critique. If you get a lot of negative feedback, consider having your resume professionally written.
- Search online job boards. There are dozens of online job search boards. Start with the heavy hitters to find a job in business. If you find you aren't having much luck there, try some of the lesser known boards. Don't rule out your local employment websites either. To search for a job in business at specific companies, try contacting those companies directly.
- Post your resume. There are several job posting sites that allow you to post your resume for free. However, be careful about posting your personal identification information. Usually, an email address is all that is needed when posting your resume online.
- Utilize college career placement services. Most colleges have a free job placement service. These programs are usually available to current students and alumni to help them to get a job in business.
- Network. Network through friends, family and coworkers to help you to get a job. Let everyone know that you are looking to get a job in business.
- Ace your interview. That's right, once you get this far, the ball is in your court. Research the company and learn about the department you will be working in. Practice your answers to common interviewing questions. Be confident and it will shine through to the interviewer.
