How To Get More Twitter Followers

Twitter can be an incredibly useful social networking tool, but it is often difficult to figure out how to get more Twitter followers.  The more followers you have on Twitter, the more people you can reach out to.  Whether you are using Twitter for promotional, business purposes, or for personal entertainment, having more followers can be beneficial.  There are several ways that you can increase your Twitter following.
 

1. Follow other people.  One of the easiest ways to get more Twitter followers is to follow other people.  Unless they have their notification settings changed, the people you follow will receive e-mails telling them that you are now following them, and it will include a link to your Twitter page, making it easy for them to follow you back.  Just be careful not to overuse this option and follow too many people at a time, or Twitter will freeze your account.
2. Use keywords in your tweets.  If you want a certain group of people to follow you that shares a common interest, using keywords in your tweets can be a great way to get more Twitter followers.  For example, if you want followers who are interested in health-related topics, when you tweet, make an effort to use words like "health", "nutrition", and "diet" in your tweets.  People searching for these topics will be able to find your tweets and potentially follow you.
3. Use other social networking sites to promote your Twitter account.  This may sound redundant, but using other social networking sites to promote your Twitter account can be an effective way to get more people to follow you.  There may be people who follow you closely on other social networking sites who didn't even know you had a Twitter account.  It's always good to make that information available to the people who have already shown an interest in what you have to say.
4. Give people incentive to follow you.  If you want more people to follow you on Twitter, you have to make it worth their time.  In other words, make your tweets interesting, informative, entertaining, something!  Include links to relevant articles, upload photos to Twitpic, whatever it takes to keep your followers interested.  You could even hold a contest.  Have your followers invite others to follow you, and have the new followers tweet by whom they were invited.  You could either have the person with the most invites win, or just do a random drawing.  Whatever it takes to get more Twitter followers!
