  1.  Look for strength. You don’t have to be a religious person to get on your knees and pray. Ask for strength and courage to see your way out of this mentally abusive relationship.
  2. Meditate. Find you a calm place to relax. Whenever you think of the abuse or have been mentally abused go to your serene place. Feel your mind up with things that make you happy or use to make you happy before the abuse started. Let your mind take you somewhere beautiful and peaceful, where you can’t be touched by mental abuse.
  3. Stop blaming yourself for mental abuse. This is not your fault. Stop trying to figure out what you did wrong to cause the mental abuse and what you can do to fix the relationship. You are not the one with the problem. You are the one who is getting mentally abused, there is a difference. The sooner you realize this is not a problem for you to fix, the easier it will be to get out of mentally abusive relationship.
  4. Find a support group. Talk with other people who are going through mental abuse. It would also be a good idea to communicate with people who managed to get out of mentally abusive relationships. Find local groups that get together to open up about mental abuse. You can also find online forums and blogs on mental abuse to join. Joining a group whether it’s in person or online may make you feel like you are not alone.
  5. Seek professional help from counselor. A professional may shed some light on what causes mentally abuse to occur and why you continue to put yourself through the abuse and when you should throw in the towel.
  6. Surround yourself with family. You will need the love and support from family to get you through this difficult time. Try not to shut family members out. Spend as much time with people that will get your mind off the mental abuse.
  7. Confront abuser. Mental abuse can strip you of your confidence. Express to your abuser how destructive this relationship has been on you. Stand up to the person who has robbed you of your self esteem. When you do you will start to gain your confidence back. Now you are ready to get out of the mentally abusive relationship and find true happiness.
