How To Get Pharmacy Technician License

Knowing how to get a pharmacy technician license can help boost the career of those who work in the pharmaceutical industry. According to the Bureau for Labor Statistics, the job outlook and pay for such a position are fairly good and may not require as much education as other careers in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry. So, how do you get a pharmacy technician license?

1. REQUIREMENTS. There are criteria that must be met in order to get a pharmacy technician license. Other than technical training, a high school diploma or GED may be necessary and will depend on the school and/or employer providing the training. In addition to this, graduates wishing to sit for the pharmacy technician licensure exam will have to submit to a criminal background check.
2. TRAINING. Before getting a pharmacy technician license, formal training is required. The duration of pharmacy technician training may vary according to the learning institution, employer, etc. However, most programs are short term and can last anywhere from a couple of months to a couple of years. Pre-licensure training for pharmacy technicians are often available by the employer, community colleges, and vocational schools.
3. LICENSURE. After obtaining the necessary credentials, the pharmacy technician license is granted through the particular state of residence and/or studies. Registration requirements with the state board of pharmacy can significantly vary. However, there is a fee incurred  to get the pharmacy technician license and the applicant must show proof that requirements have been met.
