Do you need to know how to get relief from neck pain? Neck pain can be, well, “a pain in the neck” for most sufferers. There are various reasons why people suffer from neck pain from muscle strains to serious complications. Getting relief from neck pain can be as simple as taking a few over the counter medications to seeking medical attention when the pain refuses to subside, but before seeking medical attention there are a few things one can try.

To get relief from neck pain, you will need:

  • Warm Compresses
  • Over the Counter Pain Medication
  • Shower
  • Hand Massager
  1. Easing comfort through over the counter pain medication. Prior to taking any medication you should always check with your health care provider. Over the counter medication can be useful in treating moderate neck pain.  Anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen help relive pain and reduce inflammation around the tender areas.
  2. Adding heat to get relief from neck pain is effective.  If your neck pain is not sudden but chronic, heat can help relax muscles and get blood flowing to the area to help healing your neck. If your neck pain is acute, you will want to forgo heat and use ice as heat in a situation like this could cause swelling to the area. Heat is only to be used after the threat of swelling is gone.
  3. Showers ease neck pain and tension. If adding heat is not helping your neck pain, jumping into a hot shower may help to ease tension relieving neck pain.
  4. The power of massage. Using a hand massager helps loosen up muscles and ease tension, giving relief from minor neck pain. All the better if you have someone who is willing to help massage your neck for you.

If you experience neck pain for more than 48 hours its best to have your medical care provider look into reasons why your neck may be hurting. This guide is not a substitute for sound medical advice.
