If you are a smoker, or are in a relationship with one, it's important to know how to get rid of cigarette smell on clothing. Cigarette smells are much harder to get out of clothes than other types of odors. In addition, your body may contribute as it emits the smell of cigarettes from your sweat. Also, if you spend time around a smoker, you will notice the odors on your clothing as well. To completely eliminate cigarette smells on clothing, you will need to try some new things.
To get rid of cigarette smell on clothing, you will need:
- Talcum powder
- Extra-strength detergent
- Dryer Sheets
- Sprinkle talcum powder on your clothes. Of course, this works better if the clothing is light colored. To get rid of cigarette smell on clothing, just sprinkle some on and dust of the residue.
- Wash clothing with extra-strength detergent. To get rid of cigarette smell on clothing, wash with a detergent that is not only extra-strength, but that contains oxygen cleaners. Using a detergent with a nice smell will help remove odors also.
- Dry clothes using fresh-smelling dryer sheets. They help to absorb odors and also reduce static. If the cigarette smell is quite strong, consider using three or four dryer sheets in the dryer load.
- For heartier clothing, such as jeans or wool sweaters, add one tablespoon of ammonia to the wash cycle to get out cigarette smell. It can be harder to get smells out of those types of fabric.
Tips: Add a citrus peel to the wash cycle to add a lovely, natural smell.
