When you have white flakes ruining your love life, you need to know how to get rid of dandruff. Dandruff is caused by a dry, flaky scalp. This scalp condition is embarrassing and may cause you to feel uncomfortable around others. Get rid of dandruff with these quick and easy steps.

To get rid of dandruff, you will need:

  • Medicated shampoo
  1. Use medicated shampoo. Although regular shampoo can help your dandruff problem, medicated shampoos are best. They have special ingredients such as zinc pyrithione to control dandruff. The antibacterial properties kill the bacteria that can cause irritated scalps. You only need a small dime-sized amount to do the job. Apply the shampoo to wet hair and massage your scalp with the pads of your fingertips.
  2. Rinse with water. After lathering and massaging your scalp, rinse your hair with warm or cool water. Avoid hot water because it can make your scalp and hair even drier. The cooler water will actually calm your scalp. If you have long or thick hair, use a wide tooth comb or your fingers to gently untangle your hair.
  3. Dry your hair. Use a soft towel to dry your hair. Never rub the towel roughly through your hair. Always blot your hair until it's dry. Look at your hair and check for any signs of dandruff. If your shampoo got rid of your problem, you won't see any white flakes or have a dry scalp. If you do see dandruff, the shampoo is crap. Purchase another brand.

Repeat as necessary several times a week to rid yourself of this problem permanently. Always follow the instructions on the shampoo bottle. If it says use three times a week, do so. However, some medicated shampoos can cause redness, irritation or rashes. Discontinue use if this happens.
