How To Get Rid Of Pubic Lice

It’s embarrassing to ask someone how to get rid of pubic lice. Pubic lice are also known as “crabs” for their crab-like appearance. Lice can cause a rash and persistent itching if not handled quickly. The solution use shampoos and creams to kill the lice and their eggs to prevent further infestation.

  1. Permethrin 5% cream. This is the treatment of choice in how to get rid of pubic lice. Spread cream onto the area that itches or has a rash, leave for ten minutes. Rinse with warm water. Repeat treatment up to seven to ten days until all of the eggs are gone.
  2. Lindane (Kwell). This is a shampoo that you spread over the infected area for ten minutes then rinse. Because it’s quite toxic it’s not recommended for children or pregnant women. To get rid of pubic lice you must use this shampoo up to seven to ten days for it to work effectively.
  3. Malathion. This is a prescription lotion that you spread over the infected area. Wash and rinse after eight to twelve hours. How to get rid of pubic lice may require medical assistance if the over-the-counter shampoos and creams don’t work.
  4. Ivermectin (Stromectol). This is a prescription dose of two pills to take. If the area is still infected you can take another dose within ten days.

Be sure to tell your sex partner that you’ve contracted crabs because it’s likely they too are infected. Wash all your clothes or throw them out, including towels as that is one way the pubic lice is transferred. How to get rid of pubic lice most effectively is as soon as you see signs of a rash or itching, immediately seek treatment before the lice lay a plethora of eggs on your private areas.
