When it comes to shaving, knowing how to get rid of razor burn is essential to men and women alike. After all, shaving is a part of life that most people have to deal with occasionally, if not daily. Getting rid of razor burn will begin with proper preparation before you even begin shaving. Many of the steps should be done before you even begin shaving the area, in order to get rid of razor burn, once and for all.

To get rid of razor burn, you will need:

  • Cold water or ice cubes
  • Skin Conditioners or Lotions
  • Shower loofah
  • Aloe vera
  1. Exfoliate your skin. Studies have reported that the oil and dirt that are present could be contributing to the razor burn. A shower loofah or puff can be used to gently exfoliate the skin in preparation for shaving. Be sure to use warm water to remove the dead skin and it will allow a closer shave.
  2. Use a skin conditioner before shaving; this will help get rid of razor burn. Pick out a good skin conditioner or lotion to apply to the skin prior to shaving. Leave it on for around five minutes or so, then rinse off before the shaving gel or cream. It is also advised to use a moisturizer when you are done, as well
  3. Try splashing a bit of cold water on your face after you shave to get rid of razor burn. Also, you could use an ice cube and run it over the freshly shaven area. Cold water and ice cubes will close the pores when you are done shaving.
  4. Aloe vera is advised for many of its healing properties. People use aloe vera for healing of all sorts and the bacteria-killing effect alone can be great for razor burn. Aloe vera also promotes hydration of the skin to lessen the chance of repeat incidences. Hydrating, disinfecting and moisturizing with aloe after shaving can get rid of razor burn effectively.
  5. Hair dissolvers and depilatories can be used as an alternative method of getting rid of razor burn. If the other solutions that have been presented do not work for you, it may be a good idea to try a powder or cream that will dissolve the hair. These products are made to be convenient ways to remove unwanted hair and will not result in razor burn.
  6. Ask your doctor for more advice on how to get rid of razor burn, if you experience it every time that you shave. Your skin could require something stronger than home remedies and may need a prescription strength lotion for the irritation.
