If you are constantly wondering how to get rid of red bumps from shaving, you may need to reevaluate your shaving technique. The red bumps or razor burn, are best cured through prevention rather than by using products. There are a multitude of reasons why red bumps occur but more often than not, it is either poor technique or dull, dirty blades.

To get rid of red bumps from shaving, you will need:

  • Warm and cold water
  • Lotion
  • Over the counter razor burn cream
  1. Water. Use warm water to soften your skin before a shave. Shaving in the shower or right after a shower helps a lot. The steam softens your skin. After you are done shaving, rinse the area with cold water. Cold water not only has a soothing effect, it will help remove the leftover shaving cream and also close your pores.
  2. Aftershave and lotions. To get rid of red bumps from shaving, you will need to use some aftercare products. Aftershave is more cosmetic than practical. It burns and stings but makes you smell pretty. Lotions are a much better choice for skin that has been just peeled like a grape. The healing properties in lotion will soothe irritated skin quickly if used right after you rinse off with cold water. If you need to smell good for that hot date, use a scent free lotion after you slap on few ounces of Axe Night Attack aftershave.
  3. Meds. For chronic red bumps you might want to start switching around your products to make sure you are not allergic to anything. There are also a number of over the counter products that you can try like High Time Bump Stopper or Bump Patrol. Most of these contain ingredients that are similar to acne removal products and will help you tame those angry red bumps. Some people use infant diaper rash creams with good results.
  4. Prevention. The best way to get rid of red bumps from shaving is to shave correctly. Use a clean, sharp blade. Dip it in alcohol to clean it if you are reusing a blade. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to invest in a better shaving cream than the .99 cent stuff. There are products that contain great moisturizers that help you get a smoother finish. When you use shaving cream, make sure you leave it on your face for a few minutes to let it moisturize. Never shave against the grain. While this does cut it a little closer, it also peels off your skin.
