How To Get Rid Of Skunks

Learning how to get rid of skunks can be effective in eliminating the skunks from your property. If you have this problem, it is probably time to learn some methods to prevent them from finding their way nearby, including using barriers and repellants. Here are some steps you can take to help get rid of skunks.

In order to get rid of skunks, you will need:

  • Repellant
  • Wire fence
  1. Look into repellant options. Skunk repellents are sometimes effective for getting rid of skunks. Of course, this depends on the setting - and perhaps a bit of luck. Commercial repellents and pepper sprays (these must be reapplied constantly, however) are decent options. Automated sprinklers and floodlights, the latter with motion sensors, are also strong options that can be rather effective.
  2. Be aware of barriers. Barriers should be investigated for getting rid of skunks, and keeping them out of already present objects. For structures such as sheds and underneath houses (above ground structures), make sure they are sealed. Skunks can get through holes as small as four inches. Chicken wire that is a few feet high and a foot deep will prevent skunks, if you need a more proactive barrier solution to get rid of skunks.
  3. Get rid of food. Many skunks find their way onto property in search of food. Skunks are nocturnal, so make sure that food is off of your property. Beware of pet food that is outside, berries that may fall of trees, unprotected garbage, grubs, and other food sources that make your property a nice way for skunks to get some food.
