If you smoke or someone else smokes in your home, you may want to know how to get ride of smoke odor. Smoke odor gets everywhere, in your clothes, and furniture and it can seem to linger around forever. Smoke odors are not only irritating, but they can also be dangerous, especially second hand smoke. There are some things that you can do to get ride of smoke odor, that can keep everyone safe, and the smell from lingering in your home.

  1. Empty out any ash trays and garbage cans that contains ashes or cigarette buts. These can stink up a room in no time. Remove the garbage cans and ash trays from the area and then sanitize it. If they are left inside your home the odor will continue to linger throughout your house until the trash cans and ash trays are removed. This would defeat the purpose of trying to remove the odor, so keep ashes and cigarette buts out of your home.
  2. Do a good cleaning to get rid of smoke odors. Scrub floors and clean carpets. The odor could have gotten into the floors. Clean your furniture with safe solutions for the material it's made from. Wipe down and scrub your walls with the right cleaning solution based upon you wall types. Opening windows to get fresh air circulating through the home can also help to eliminate smoke odors.
  3. Set aside a designated smoking room. Some smokers have a bad habit of smoking everywhere and anywhere, and because of this the smoke odor lingers wherever they go. If the smoking is done indoors you should set aside a separate designated smoking room in you house. Stay away from open areas such as the dining room or kitchen, and also children's bedrooms. Make sure that the area that you choose is well ventilated.
  4. Deodorize your smoke room and house. Even though you may have a smoke room it does not always have to smell like cigarettes. Especially with second hand smoke that lingers in and around your smoke room it can be toxic and potentially life threatening to those who come in contact with it. Get a specialized deodorizing spray that will help to mask the smoke odors. Spray it on any furniture or drapes in or near the room.
