At some point in your life you will probably wonder how to get a tattoo. Tattoos are exciting and unique ways to express individual creativity. Getting a tattoo, however, is a big decision that should not be taken lightly. The following guide will help you learn how to get a tattoo.

To get a tattoo, you will need:

  • Tattoo reference photos
  • Tattoo parlor with a good reputation
  1. Getting a tattoo is a big decision that should never be made while intoxicated. Make sure to really consider whether or not a tattoo will fit with your lifestyle. If you plan to go into business, for example, getting a tattoo may be a bad idea because it could make you appear unprofessional. Additionally, if you come from a conservative family, a tattoo may not go over too well during family parties.
  2. Before you get a tattoo you will need to choose a design. It is best to choose a design that truly means something to you. Do not just arrive at the parlor and point to a design. This will only result in you regretting your decision to get a tattoo.  Think about what represents you as a person and what sort of tattoo you want to be a part of your body for the rest of your life. If you are going to go through the time, cost and pain of getting a tattoo, make sure you get something you truly want.
  3. Choose a tattoo parlor that has an excellent reputation. The last thing you want is to get a bad tattoo or an infection from unsanitary needles. If possible, ask people with tattoos where they went to get theirs and what their experience was with the parlor.
  4. Once you decide on your tattoo and the parlor you want to go to, bring your designs and talk with the artist about getting the look you want.
  5. Make sure to follow the aftercare procedures, which include keeping the tattoo out of water and changing bandages over the first few days.
