How To Get A Teaching Degree
Any aspiring educator should know how to get a teaching degree. Teachers may teach a wide variety of ages. Many teachers even pursue teaching a particular subject, such as math or science. Those who love children may find this a rewarding career. There are many options available for you to obtain a teaching degree and some programs allow individuals to work while pursuing their teaching degree.
- Research alternative programs, such as, Teach for America. If you are accepted into one of these programs, you are given the opportunity to teach in schools while working on your teaching certification. You will be given training classes and work under the supervision of another professional. You are required to have a bachelor’s degree in any field prior to being accepted into the program.
- Pursue a bachelor’s degree. You are required to obtain a bachelor’s degree to qualify to teach. Speak to a counselor regarding teaching certification programs that many colleges offer. For example, English majors at many colleges are given the opportunity to pursue teaching certification while working on their degree. In addition, the teaching track allows them to perform internship positions at local schools to enhance their teaching skills.
- Take the Praxis exam. Most teaching programs require that individuals pass this exam. You will be tested to determine your academic skills before you are accepted in to a teaching program.
- Contact the Department of Education in your area. Inquire about programs available to those desiring to be teachers. Many states offer new teachers who are still working on their certification to participate in programs that place them in high needs areas. This allows them the opportunity to gain experience while helping children where the need for good teacher is great.
