How To Give Myself An Orgasm

By: Sheridan D. Corde

The act of giving yourself an orgasm is called masturbation. Alfred Kinsey's research of human sexuality found that 95 percent of men masturbate at some point during their lives (60 percent of women, too). Despite the myths associated with masturbation, that it will make you go blind, put hair on your palms, and so on--giving yourself an orgasm is actually a healthy outlet for sexual tension and stress relief. It's also a safe way to enjoy sexual activity with a partner while avoiding pregnancy and STD's. Follow these tips to help give yourself an orgasm.

  1. Think sexy thoughts. Your brain is your most important sexual organ, despite myths to the contrary. Sexual images and fantasies will increase your arousal, helping you reach orgasm. Many men watch pornography to arouse themselves, but there are other ways to get aroused. Try having a sexy online chat with a significant other or another consenting partner, reading an erotica novel, or just thinking about your sexual fantasies and desires.
  2. Take things slowly. Just as sex with a partner is more pleasurable when you take the time to tease and let the tension build, giving yourself an orgasm is more enjoyable if you take your time than if you just grab your penis and start whacking. First, give your mind some time to let your fantasy develop. Then try stimulating sensitive spots on your body other than your sex organs, such as your nipples (some men find them almost as sensitive as women do). When you do touch your penis, avoid the more sensitive head. Going slow will make your masturbation experience more intense and help you build up sexual stamina.
  3. Try something new. Giving yourself an orgasm in the same way every time can get monotonous and might make it harder to get aroused. Try to mix things up to make the experience more interesting. For example, you can stimulate your prostate with an object such as a narrow dildo--a practice enjoyed by gay and straight men alike. Just make sure the object is smooth, well-lubed and easy to clean or covered with a condom.
  4. Plan where to spew. Once you're almost ready to orgasm, you don't want to worry about where to ejaculate. Before you start masturbating, figure out where you can shoot your wad without making a mess. One popular choice is a tissue--just make sure it's clean! Another easy method is a condom or clean sock, which you can slip over your erection while you're masturbating and then dispose of (or wash) after you orgasm. You can also give yourself an orgasm in the shower or by the toilet to minimize clean-up.
