How To Give A Sensual Back Massage

When you’re with that special someone, you’ll often want to try new things to spice up the romance; with that in mind, here are some tips on how to give a sensual back massage. If you’re so inclined, a back massage can be foreplay, an appetizer before the main course. But if you prefer, a sensual back massage can be an end unto itself, a relaxing and bonding experience for both you and your partner.

Here are some supplies that may be handy for your sensual back massage:

  • A massage table, if you have access to one. If not, a bed will work fine.

  • Massage oils or lubricant.

  • A bowl of warm water or some other way of heating the oils to a comfortable temperature.

  • A soft, clean sheet or blanket to put under your partner–one you don’t mind getting smeared with oil or lube.

  1. Practice on yourself first. Before massaging someone else, try it on yourself to see what feels good. It’s best to do this when you’re lying down and relaxed, such as just before sleep. You won’t be able to fully reach your back, of course, so focus on the shoulders, neck and lower back. Aside from the techniques you learn, it can often be therapeutic, especially if you spend long hours at a desk or cash register.

  2.  Prepare the scene. Trim your nails. Choose a time and place when interruptions are unlikely. Turn off or silence your phones. Get your partner to remove tight shirts, bra straps, etc.; the less clothing, the better. Maybe put on some music, preferably without D.J.’s or commercials that might disrupt the mood.

  3. Communicate well. This probably goes without saying, but make sure your partner is open to a sensual back massage; this is not the time for an unwelcome romantic advance. Likewise, establish good communication at the outset; your partner should feel completely comfortable and free to discuss anything that doesn’t feel right. Check in at regular intervals, with questions like “Feel good?” and “Is this okay?” that don’t require complicated answers.

  4. Focus on your partner. Rub the warm oils or lube into your hands first; cold fluids can make your partner tense up. When you want to apply more pressure, use your body weight rather than your arm strength, and you won’t tire as quickly. Clear your mind of other thoughts or concerns, and focus your concentration on the warm, wonderful body under your hands. Take as much time as you’re both comfortable with. When you’re done, wrap the sheet or blanket gently around your partner; this “cocooning” can make a person feel safe and cherished.

If your sensual back massage is working well, it may be time to move on to something else. But since the title of this article is “How to Give a Sensual Back Massage,” that’s a subject for another time….
