How To Grip A Skateboard
If creating your own board sound good to you, then you need to know how to grip a skateboard. Skating without grip tape is dangerous and just plain stupid. Adding grip to your board is not hard, but requires practice. Learning how to grip a board can be easy with the following instructions.
If you want to grip a skateboard, you will need:
- One sheet of grip tape
- Skateboard deck
- Sandpaper
- Phillips screwdriver
- Utility knife
- Separate the tape. Remove the paper backing located on the back of the tape sheet. Gently remove the paper to avoid damaging the tape.
- Join it to the board. Leave a slight overhang as you start the grip at the nose of the skateboard. Press the grip onto the deck of the board.
- Work slowly. Work carefully as you attach the tape to the center and one to the tail of the board. Avoid creating bubbles in the tape.
- Score and cut. Apply the edge of a Phillips screwdriver on the grip to trace around the outside of the deck. Use a utility knife to cut off excess grit as one of the ending steps of how to grip a skateboard.
- Finish the grip. If necessary use sandpaper to file down jagged edges on the deck. Now you are finished, you have successfully gripped a skateboard.
