Are you a dog owner who needs to know how to groom a bichon frise?  Learning how to groom a bichon frise requires practice, patience, and a lot of time.  If you don't think you can do it, take your dog to a professional groomer as ungroomed coat can lead to serious problems.

Ro groom a bichon frise, you will need:

  • Slicker brush
  • Metal comb
  • Tear stain remover
  • Untangling spray
  • Whitening dog shampoo
  • Coat conditioner
  • Scissors
  1. Brushing the undercoat.  This is the most important step if you want to properly groom a bichon frise.  Shed hair may get trapped at the undercoat and lead to matting.  Use a slicker brush to brush the fur with an upward motion, as this will give your bichon frise a fluffy coat.  If you come across tight knots when you groom your bichon frise, you may need to cut them away.
  2. Untangling.  Most knots and mats exist at the undercoat; therefore, you will need a metal comb to groom a bichon frise.  Use untangling spray if you find it hard to groom a bichon frise with a matted undercoat.  You can also leave some knots uncut until after you condition the dog.
  3. Bathing.  To properly groom a bichon frise, you will need whitening dog shampoo.  Do not use products that are too harsh.  Apply coat conditioner after rinsing off the shampoo to soften the mat.
  4. Removing tear stains.  After shampooing, further groom a bichon frisee by applying a tear stain remover with a cotton wipe.

Tip: Although you may be able to groom a bichon frise twice a week, the dog needs professional service in order to look its best.
