How To Hard Reset Blackberry

A hard reset of your BlackBerry smartphone often returns the phone to proper operating order without resetting it to its factory issued specifications. The process to hard reset your BlackBerry is really quite simple with only one simple tool and no special equipment necessary.

To reset your BlackBerry, you will need:

• A BlackBerry with Battery
• A Flathead Screwdriver (if necessary)

1. Understand the difference between a hard reset and a soft reset. During a hard reset, the user is essentially forcing a total shutdown and restart of the BlackBerry by removing the battery. A hard reset is often the only reset option immediately available on many BlackBerry phones. Some BlackBerry phones provide options for a soft reset, where key commands are entered and the phone resets without battery removal.
2. Remove the battery cover from the BlackBerry. Begin a hard reset of your BlackBerry by removing the battery cover from the back of your smartphone.
3. Physically remove the battery from the BlackBerry. You may need to use a thin prying tool such as a small flat head screw driver to lift the battery from the compartment. Take care not to damage the battery connectors or scratch the phone’s components or exterior.
4. Wait at least 30 seconds. Waiting at least 30 seconds before returning the BlackBerry’s battery allows the phone to fully shutdown and reset.
5. Reinstall the battery.  Make sure that you correctly position the battery and insert it into the battery compartment completely.
6. Return the battery cover to the BlackBerry. Replace the cover to the rear of your BlackBerry, ensuring that the door is replaced tightly and securely.
7. Power up the BlackBerry. The smartphone should retain its user defined settings with the hard reset. Test the functionality to determine if the technical difficulties leading to the reset have been corrected. If the unit continues to behave oddly, consult the user manual or contact BlackBerry technical support for guidance. Additional troubleshooting may be required.  Note that it is common for a startup to take longer than normal after a hard reset—so allow extra time for the unit to return to a fully operational status.
