If you've just gotten out of a serious relationship or are new to dating, you may be wondering how to have casual sex safely. This can be tricky, so it's important to be prepared ahead of time. There are a few guidelines to follow to avoid any unpleasant health issues or emotional consequences.

  1. Always, always use a condom. Make sure the kind you buy is the correct size and that the condoms also contain spermicide for extra pregnancy protection. You can make condom use fun by buying colored condoms, flavored condoms or textured condoms. Some condoms are even available now with a vibrating base, which can be pleasurable for you and your casual sex partners.
  2. Even if you have all intention of keeping things casual and not seeing the girl again, a few questions are in order. For instance, always find out if a prospective casual sex partner is married or has a boyfriend. If she does, and he finds out about your tryst, he may not care how casual the sex was or how careful you were and you could end up with a busted nose.
  3. Be up front about your intentions. Don't let a girl believe you interested in her or lead her to think this is the start of a relationship. That's just cruel. Be kind, but honest. Let her know you're just looking for some casual fun, although you're sure she's a cool girl and all, the only thing you are looking for at this point is casual sex. This will avoid confusion and keep her from being hurt. And if she's not looking for the same thing as you are, it's better that you find that out, anyway. There are plenty of other possible partners out there.
  4. See your doctor regularly to get tested for sexually transmitted diseases. Although condoms cut the risks dramatically, nothing is foolproof. Have your doctor check you and test you every few months to be on the safe side, and if a problem comes up, let any sex partners know right away so they can be screened as well.

There are ways to safely have casual sex partners. It's important to always use condoms, be careful of who you get involved with, be honest, and see your doctor regularly to stay healthy.
