Bruises are painful and ugly, but you can learn how to heal bruises easily. Bruises are a part of life, and if you are an active athletic you will get your fair share of them. While bruises will heal themselves and disappear in seven to ten days, there are ways to effectively decrease the healing time.

To learn how to heal a bruise, you will need:

  • vitamin C
  • vitamin K
  • vitamin E
  • zinc oxide
  • cold compress
  • elastic bandage
  1. Wrap the area of an injury to decrease the size of a bruise. Immediately following an injury, try wrapping the area with an elastic bandage. The pressure from the bandage will reduce blood flow, and result in a smaller-sized bruise. Be sure to remove the bandage for ten to fifteen minutes a few times a day, and avoid sleeping with the bandage.
  2. If you want to heal your bruise faster, you better take your vitamins. Vitamins C, K, and E are all beneficial in helping to heal a bruise faster. These vitamins can be taken orally, or you can apply the vitamins directly to the affected area. There are many creams, and ointments available that contain vitamins.
  3. Apply a zinc oxide ointment to the affected area. Zinc oxide is a great treatment for skin problems, and is really effective with bruising. Apply a thin layer of zinc oxide to the affected area, and leave on.
  4. Elevate your the bruise above your heart. Elevation will reduce the swelling, and the discoloration of the bruise.
  5. Use a cold compress to speed healing time. 24 hours after you notice a bruise, you should apply a cold compress to the area for fifteen to twenty minutes, three times a day.
