Do you want to learn how to hunt ghosts? Ghost hunting takes time, skill, practice, patience and according to professional paranormal researchers, some serious ghost hunting equipment. If you'd like to find and communicate with lost souls and earthbound spirits, read through the information below to learn how.

Supplies:

  • Flashlights
  • 35mm camera
  • Watch
  • Camcorder
  • Tape recorder with microphone or digital audio recorder
  • Compass
  • Thermometer
  • Set of walkie talkies
  1. Choose a ghost hunting location. Old cemeteries, schools, churches, historic buildings and former battlefields are often said to be haunted. When ghost hunting, be sure to avoid trespassing on private property. Before heading out on a ghost hunting expedition, be sure to scout the location and check for anything that could lead to an accident or getting lost. This should be done in the daylight hours, while actual ghost hunting should be done at night.
  2. Gather your ghost hunting crew. Those who hunt ghosts often go in groups. Many haunted locations are abandoned properties and out of the way locations. These types of places may also be the same spots where the living, who are up to no good, gather to take part in illegal activities. On the night of your ghost hunting trip, set a time and place to meet your group. Assign each of your crew a different responsibility. Once can be in charge of recording notes, another can operate a camera while another can be responsible for communicating with the ghosts.
  3. Consider investing in professional equipment. Paranormal investigators prefer using a camera that uses actual film rather than a digital camera, this way the film will have to be developed.  The pros use high tech gadgets like  thermal scanners, EMF meters, audio enhancers and night vision scopes. Ghost hunting gadgets and meters can be found online at retailers who specialize in selling paranormal investigation equipment.
  4. Be respectful of the dead and take ghost hunting seriously. Don't joke, giggle or play around. When you are on site or before you enter the site, take a moment to gather with your group and say a prayer for protection.
  5. Concentrate and try to make contact with ghosts. When you first arrive at the haunted location, get a feel for the environment using all of your senses. Avoid taking pictures or recording video until you feel that a spirit may be present. It's OK to ask the spirits to reveal themselves, but don't dare them, taunt or threaten them.
  6. Use your senses and equipment. While the high-tech gadgets are nice to have, you can be successful hunting ghosts with just the basics. After you feel that ghosts are in the area, take pictures and use your audio and video recording equipment. Be sure to take note of everything that you may feel when ghost hunting and write down the time and sensation you experienced. After your ghost hunting trip, be sure to compare your handwritten notes with your images and recordings.
