If you are dying for a new laptop, but you are short on cash, you might be wondering how to identify a free laptop scam. The Internet is full of scams like these and you have to do your best to avoid them. Not only might you be giving away valuable information such as your social security number or your credit card number, you will not get a laptop in return. Here are a few tips on how to avoid free laptop scams.

  1. Watch out for flashing banners. If you see a banner or advertisement on a Website which states that you can "Click here to receive a free laptop", it is probably a scam. This is one of the easiest ways to identify a scam such as this.
  2. Do not fill out multiple offers to get your "free laptop". If you come across a Website that promises a free laptop once you complete several "offers", be prepared for a scam. You will have to give your credit card number in order to complete the offers and you will never receive a laptop in return.
  3. Don't click on email offers that have arrived in your spam email file. If an email lands in your spam folder, there is usually a good reason. Avoid these emails like the plague. Even clicking on them can sometimes send a virus to your computer.

If you want a free laptop, chances are you are not going to get it from the Internet. You do get what you pay for, after all, and some people are just looking for an easy way to get to your credit card number.
