How to Improve Hitting in Baseball

It is essential to learn how to improve hitting in baseball, unless perhaps you are a pitcher.  Hitting is a skill that baseball players need to spend time developing over the course of their playing career, along with other fundamentals such as fielding.  Take the following into consideration in order to improve hitting in baseball.

  1. Hitting begins with mechanics.  The other skill areas mean nothing if you can't execute in your swing.  If you have access to a hitting instructor or someone who knows the game, ask for advice in cleaning up your stance or swing, in order to improve aspects of your hitting mechanics.
  2. Work on seeing the ball.  Being able to see the ball and react to it is an important skill.  You can improve this hitting skill by doing drills and exercise both related and non-related to baseball.  The latter represents a great way to improve off of the field, but take advantage of both.
  3. Improve hand speed.  This separates good hitters from great hitters.  Better hitting control and power are achieved through hand speed, which gives you more time to react to the ball.  Work on developing hand speed from the moment you initiate your swing.
  4. Become a workhorse in hitting drills.  Hitting is improved by practice.  There are a significant number of drills and exercises you can take advantage of to fine tune your hitting.  Approach these with good judgment, by concentrating on those exercises that will improve a certain type of skill for hitting.  Whatever the case, make sure you take advantage of practice time to become a great hitter in baseball.
