How To Increase Punching Power
It is not difficult to learn how to increase punching power. You will have to spend a lot of time in the gym if you want to be a powerful puncher. Since punching puts a lot of strain on your hands and wrists, make sure you have the proper equipment before you start to train. You will need boxing gloves, tape for your wrists, and any other gear you think will help you with your training. As you start to increase punching power, if you begin to experience any pain in your joints, take a few days off to recover from your training.
- Hit the heavy bag to increase punching power. Go to the gym, or use a bag at home. Make sure you have heavy bag gloves or boxing gloves to protect your knuckles. Apply some tape to your wrists for added support. Hit the bag for 15 minutes, broken down into five 3 minute rounds. Rest for 1 minute in between rounds. Work on the heavy bag at least three times each week, and your punching power will increase.
- Lift some weights to increase punching power. Use heavy weights for 8 to 10 repetitions. Do three sets of barbell curls, bench presses, triceps extensions, dumbbell curls and military presses. Use strict form during each exercise, to increase the difficulty.
- Work on a speed bag. Fast hands can often provide a knockout blow since your opponent will not have enough time to react. Use a speed bag combined with your heavy bag workout to help increase your punching power. Train for 15 minutes on the speed bag, and then move to the heavy bag portion of your training session.
- Work with a trainer on your punching power. If you can, use a trainer who specializes in boxing. They will be able to show you how to position your body in order to get the maximum power out of each punch. If you are able to spar with one of the trainer’s other clients, you can try out your punching power on them, to see if you are making progress.
