How To Inflate Tires
Every driver should know how to inflate tires. Back in the good ‘ole days, there were full service gas stations on every corner that would check your air pressure and inflate tires for you. Now these are few and far in between, if you could even find one. However, many gas stations have air hoses available to those in need.
- The first thing you should do is buy yourself an air gauge. Some places have them, but most do not so be prepared.
- Know how much air pressure is needed to inflate tires. The specifications for your car should be on the drivers side door jam.
- Take off the valve stem cover.
- Check the air pressure to make sure you need to inflate the tires.
- If the air pressure is low, add air with the air hose by pressing the lever on the back of the air valve on the hose.
- Check the air pressure of your tires again to see if more air is needed to inflate the tires. If the air pressure is good, replace the valve stem cover. If the pressure is too high, you need to let some air out. You can do this by pressing the needle in the valve stem.
- Repeat on the rest of the tires.
When you have properly inflated tires the car will not only drive better but you will also get better gas mileage and prevent unnecessary wear on the tires. Tires with too much or too little air are a safety hazard and can be prone to tire blow outs. Checking your tire air pressure on a regular basis can prevent tire blow outs and abnormal wear on the tires.
