How To Install Roof Racks For Kayaks

To install roof racks for kayaks, you will need:
- Kayak roof rack
- Screwdriver
- Vehicle with luggage rack
- Socket wrench
- Bungee cords

Assemble the roof rack by sliding the bars together and securing them with the accompanying screw.

Place the roof rack on your vehicle luggage bars. There will be a rubber strap that slides around the luggage bars and has two bolts that tighten in place. Ensure that the roof rack contacts the vehicle luggage bars at each of these four points.

Place the rubber straps around the vehicle luggage bars and tighten the accompanying bolts. Repeat this with each of the four connection points.

Connect the kayak saddles to the front of the roof rack by wrapping the straps around the support beams and tightening the bolts. These units seat the kayak when you are carrying it and allow you to properly secure the unit. Repeat this step on the rear of the roof rack. Note that some roof racks have multiple kayak saddles, allowing you to haul multiple kayaks on the same roof rack.

Place the kayak on top of the vehicle in the front and rear saddles. Adjust the saddles by loosening the bolts and moving the units, if needed. Strap the kayak down with bungee cords and ties.
