How To Insulate A Garage Door

Garages, especially attached garages, can be drafty if the door is not insulated making your house drafty as well. With a few items from the home improvement store, you can insulate a garage door to improve the comfort of your home or apartment.
To insulate a garage door, you will need:
- Insulation sheets found in garage door insulation kits
- Weatherstripping
- Utility knife
- Ruler
- Ask for advice at the home improvement store. Ask for advice on the pros and cons of the garage insulation kits that the home improvement stores sells. Some kits have reflective foil sheets and others have insulation sheets made of foam core. Also ask the home improvement professional if they have any hints or tips for installing the specific kit you decide to buy.
- Open the garage insulation kit. Read the instructions that come in the kit completely through. This will give you an idea of the steps involved in insulating the garage door.
- Cut the panels to the right size. Measure the garage door panels where you want to add the insulation. Cut the insulation panels from the kit to the correct size using a ruler or straight edge and a utility knife.
- Add tape and panels to the garage door. The double-sided tape in the kit is added to the inside horizontal panels of the garage door then the foil or foam board insulation sheets are placed on top of the tape. Stick the cut panels to the inside of the garage door to insulate the garage door.
- Add weatherstripping. Add double-lip weatherstripping to the bottom of the garage door to seal the bottom of the garage door to keep out even more drafts.
