How To Keep Hair Healthy

To a certain degree, we're stuck with what we're born with but as far as hair is concerned, there are ways to keep hair healthy that will keep it looking good as well. Whether you have a buzz cut, fringe with a bald pate, or long rocker hair, healthy hair makes all the difference in how the hair you do have looks.
To keep hair healthy, you will need:
- The right foods for a healthy diet
- Water
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Dandruff shampoo, as needed
- Cap or hat

- Eat right to keep hair healthy. Your hair becomes and stays healthy from the inside out, so eat right. Certain foods promote healthy hair, skin, and fingernails. Enjoy foods rich in protein and iron like salmon, leafy dark green vegetables like spinach, beans, nuts, poultry like turkey and chicken, eggs, and whole grains on a regular basis to keep hair healthy. In addition, most of these foods are low in fat, offer good nutrition in the vitamins and minerals they provide, and are key to eating a healthy diet in general.
- Drink plenty of water. Just as eating healthy is key to keep hair healthy, drinking water is just as important. Drink at least eight glasses of water each day to keep your hair healthy and as a healthy part of your diet too.
- Wash and condition hair as needed. Healthy hair is clean hair. Oily, stringy hair doesn't look good or healthy. Keep your hair looking good by shampooing once a day or once every other day. Everyone's hair is different so figure out what works for you. Use a shampoo and conditioner for your hair type, oily, normal, or dry. And condition as needed, but probably not every time you shampoo or it might build up and make your hair look limp. Conditioning hair once a week may be all you need to keep hair healthy.
- Style a bit then be done. Too much styling such as combing and blow drying can damage the outer layer of the hair's follicles. To keep hair healthy, the less styling the better.
- Combat dandruff. Healthy hair doesn't look so healthy if dandruff is scattered on your clothes. Find a dandruff shampoo that works for your hair and use it every day. Your hair and head will thank you.
- Protect your hair from the sun. The sun can dry out your hair and make it brittle. Brittle hair breaks easier, so keep a cap or hat handy to wear for ball games and other outdoor activities whether you're playing or watching.
- Embrace the gray. If you've tried coloring your hair with less than wonderful results, consider letting it go gray. Gray hair isn't a bad thing. It's a natural thing and can look striking and very attractive on men. Dyes can irritate the scalp so if this happens when you color, instead of scratching and being miserable, let it go and embrace the gray.
- Go easy on the ponytail. Men with long hair sometimes pull it back in a ponytail, which is fine. Just don't pull your hair too tight or it can damage the hair's follicles and pull hair out. Instead, try a low and loose ponytail.
