How To Know What Size Condom To Buy

If you are using condoms as birth control, how to know what condom size to buy is important.  Buying the right or wrong condom size will affect how well the condom works. Wearing the wrong condom size will put you at greater risk for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Taking the time to figure out what condom size to buy can save you a lot of hassle later. 

1. Read the back of the condom boxes.  When you go to the store to buy condoms, the number of choices can be overwhelming. There are so many brands, textures, thicknesses and catch phrases to draw you in. Don't just read the front of the box. Valuable information on the condom shape and size are located in small print on the back of the box. Just because you wear an "XL" in one brand doesn't mean you do in a different brand.  This is another reason it is important to read the small print to know what condom size to buy.
2. Know the actual size of your penis.  Don't overestimate or underestimate your size.  This will surely lead you to choosing the wrong size. If you haven't already, take a tape measure and measure your erect penis. Know the length in inches and millimeters. Many condom brands use millimeters for measurement. Also measure the diameter so you can know what condom size to buy.  The boxes will note the length of the unrolled condom along with the circumference it fits. Both measurements are important to know what condom size to buy.
3. Be familiar with the terms.  Condom manufacturers use a lot of terms to describe and advertise their product.  Terms such as latex, lamb skin, magnum, mega, micro-thin, plus and sensitive are common words you will see on the front of the condom box.  The only way to understand so many terms is, again, to read the boxes to know what condom size to buy.  You may need to try out several different types to find out how to know what condom size to buy in what brand.  All of these terms describe the size, material or texture of the condom which may affect the fit as well.  A XL size condom that is "micro-thin" may not fit the same as a size XL condom that is describe as "mega".
