Learning how to do skateboard tricks is one thing, but learning how to land skateboard tricks is another thing. Learning skateboarding tricks alone is difficult in itself, but what good is a skateboard trick without learning how to land out of one? Landing a skateboard from a trick is challenging and requires lots, and lots of practice. Landing a skateboard trick is just as important as learning the trick itself. Getting the timing right and the moves down is all part of the landing. To land a skateboard start out by trying to land from basic tricks first and then work your way up to more advanced tricks.

To land a skateboard you will need:

  • skateboard
  • helmet
  • gloves (optional)
  • knee pads
  • elbow pads

Steps

  1. Position your feet correctly while still in the air. Positioning your feet while in the air helps you to get used to preparing for the land from skateboard trick. When you are in mid air practice keeping your feet above the board, as close to the board as possible, but not touching it unless the trick you are doing requires you to. When you get your feet into position, bend your knees slightly, this will get help prepare you for that landing.
  2. Practice your timing while in the air. Timing is extremely important while working on your landing because without the correct timing you will not have a successful landing. Pace yourself with the flipping, grabbing, balancing, and handling of your board. Never under estimate timing when you are doing a trick. Do your tricks several times until you get the timing down to perfection. Make sure you land you feet in the correct position each time you practice your trick and its landing.
  3. Practice your ollies. Ollies are the basics of any landing during a skateboard trick. Landing an ollie consists of bring the skateboard with you when you jump, and then land in the original position that you started in. When practicing an ollie the bend of your knees during the start of the trick, and the bend of your knees during the land of the trick are very important to help you stabilize yourself. As you land the more you bend your knees the more you will absorb the impact. Once you have hit the ground and you are landing your skateboard trick, straighten your legs just a little bit to help complete the landing.
