As the holiday season draws near, you need to know how to light a Christmas tree. No matter where you live, a Christmas tree is a great way to celebrate as well as decorate. Each year, families get together to create something that they can be proud of. It all starts with how to light a Christmas tree.

To light a Christmas tree you will need:

  • A Christmas Tree
  • Christmas Tree Lights
  • A Power Source
  1. Start by setting up the Christmas tree. You want to make sure that before you light the Christmas tree it is located where you want it to be. After adding lights, it can be more difficult to  move and you can run the risk of damaging some of the bulbs.
  2. Figure out how many strands of Christmas lights you are going to need. While you are just going to be estimating, you want to get an idea of what you need to make sure that the lights on your Christmas tree look good and compliment the shape and size. If you really aren't sure, always err on the side of too many Christmas lights instead of not enough.
  3. Get out all of the strands of light and test them to make sure they are working. You don't want to get all of the Christmas lights onto the Christmas tree and then find out that some of them aren't working. Then you will have to take them off and start over again with a new set. Just plug them into the outlet and check for bulbs that aren't lighting up.
  4. Choose a starting place. If you have an angel or a star at the top of the Christmas tree that you need to attach to the Christmas lights, it is probably more practical to start there. You can connect the topper and move down the tree. Or you can start from the bottom and work your way up. When you light the Christmas tree, you may find that no matter where you start, there are some Christmas lights leftover. If this is the case, just string them into the tree in a creative manner in the place least likely to be seen by other people.
  5. Plug in the lights. It is so much easier to light a Christmas tree when the lights are shining. It makes it easier to find the right placement and see your progress as you work.
  6. Wrap the lights around the Christmas tree loosely. Some people like to create the idea of swags with the light strand sitting on one branch and draping down until it comes back up to sit on a branch at the same level as the first. Others just like to light a Christmas tree by wrapping the lights around in loosely in circles until the opposite end of the tree is reached.
  7. Step away and take a look at the end results of how to light a Christmas tree. Here you can view the Christmas tree as a whole and see if you are happy with the way it turned out. If not, just make a few adjustments and step away again to see if things are any better.

When it comes to how to light a Christmas tree, you can do whatever you want to create your favorite holiday look.
