Wondering how long pink eye lasts? Pink eye, or conjuctivitis, can vary in length. The length of the infection may be determined by the cause, as the symptoms are the same for many different types. Symptoms of pink-eye include crustiness, blurred vision, redness of the eye, itchiness and eye pain. The most common types of pink eye are usually around for a short period of time, while others may take a bit longer to get rid off. If symptoms last beyond four days, it is advised that medical attention be sought.

Allergies can make a person have symptoms of pink eye. There are two options for getting rid of symptoms when allergies are involved. Anti-histimines may be used, which will allow for allergy symptoms to subside. It can also be waited out, hoping that the cause will be removed natuarally by the body.

Bacterial infections will last as long as they are allowed. If a bacteria is the cause of the infection, anti-bioctics can be prescribed by the doctor. The infection will usually last until the medical regimen is completed.

A viral infection will last until the body fights off the infections. Usually, it takes about a week to fully get rid of viral conjunctivitis. Anti-biotics are often prescribed when a virus is the cause of pink-eye. This is to prevent infection from bacteria at the same time.
