How To Lose weight On A Vegetarian Diet

Most meat eaters assume that it's not difficult to figure out how to lose weight on a vegetarian diet. However, vegetarians can pack on the pounds just as quickly as omnivores if they're not careful—after all, potato chips, french fries and soda are all meat-free options and will certainly not help you lose weight. Whether you are a meat eater who is curious about switching to a vegetarian diet to lose weight or a long time vegetarian who wants to drop a few extra pounds, learning to lose weight on a vegetarian diet is easier than it seems.

  1. Make smarter food choices. Bake or grill your foods rather than fry them. Drink water instead of soda or beer. Watch the fat and sugar content in your foods. Paying attention to what you are consuming and learning what is in the food you are eating can help you easily lose weight on a vegetarian diet.
  2. Eat the right kind of protein. Many people know that since a vegetarian diet can easily be deficient in protein, they need to be especially careful to eat enough of it. Easy ways to get extra protein is by eating peanut butter and cheese. However, these foods are very high in fat and calories which will counteract weight loss. Better sources of protein are beans, nuts and soy products. Consuming the right amount of protein will help control your food cravings.
  3. Fit lots of fiber into your diet. It's common knowledge that people do not eat enough fiber, but did you know that fiber can help you lose weight? Whether it's through eating whole grains, fruits and vegetables, fiber aids in your digestion and helps you feel full longer.
  4. Get active! This is a universal rule of weight loss, whether you want to lose weight on a vegetarian diet or on a diet that includes meat. Not only does exercising reduce your waistline, it improves your stamina and gives you more energy.
