How To Make Beer Batter
Have you ever had a craving for fried food but did not know how to make beer batter? A good beer batter is useful for frying many different kinds of foods from fish to vegetables, and is quick and easy to make with few ingredients. Thick beer batter works well for frying fish while a thin beer batter can be used for vegetables, onion rings or cheese.
To make beer batter, you will need:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon spice
- ¾ cup beer
- ½ cup milk
- 2 eggs
- Make beer batter by mixing one cup flour, one teaspoon salt, one teaspoon baking powder and ½ teaspoon of a spice of choice. Spice options are Cajun, dill, season salt or garlic powder. Experiment with spices to find the one you like best. Add more spice for an intense flavor when making beer batter.
- Add 3/4 cup beer, 1/2 cup milk and two eggs to the dry ingredients and mix well by hand until the batter is smooth. Use a wire whisk if the batter has flour lumps.
- Add additional flour to the batter one Tablespoon at a time if the batter is too thin for the item being dipped in it. Thin out batter with additional milk or beer.
- Dip items in the beer batter and fry according to the deep fryer manufacturer’s directions. Soak cold fish in the batter for 30 minutes in a refrigerator to make beer batter form a thick layer on the fish.
