How To Make A Chef's Hat
Do you want to learn how to make a chef's hat? Coming up with a costume for Halloween, a costume party, or simply a fun get together can be difficult and frustrating ... as well as expensive. The next time you need to dress up in costume, consider being a chef. The most important part of this costume is the chef's hat. Follow these basic guidelines to make an inexpensive chef's hat at no in no time.
- Choose the material you will be using to create the chef’s hat. The hat can be made from material ranging in quality from tissue paper to thin linen—just make sure when using fabric that it is fairly light. Lay the fabric on a flat surface such as a table or countertop, and measure out a circle that is between 25 and 35 inches in diameter. Use a pair of sharp scissors to cut out this circle, which will be used to form the top of the hat.
- Use a tape measure to determine the distance around the head of the person for whom the hat is intended. Next, cut the hatband. The hatband will be cut from a piece of material that is relatively thick and sturdy, such as poster board or cardboard. Cut a strip of material that is slightly longer than the measured head circumference, and should be wide enough to cover the forehead of the person wearing the hat.
- Connect the ends of the hatband. You can do this with tape, glue, or staples—basically anything is acceptable as long as it holds. You have now created the brim of the hat.
- Fold or gather the edges of the circle cut previously and attach to the inside of the top of the brim. This connects the fluffy top part of the chef’s hat with the hatband, resulting in a great, easy to wear chef’s hat. Add an apron and a spatula, and you have the perfect chef's costume!
