One of the tops things any would-be home entertainer should learn is how to make a daiquiri. A daiquiri can be made as a classic mixed drink or in its more popular frozen form. Either way, the ingredients are very similar. Frozen daiquiris can also be made in a variety of fruit flavors, making in a top choice in summer.

To make a classic daiquiri, you will need:

  • Rum
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Simple syrup
  • Ice
  • A cocktail shaker
  • Glasses
  1. Put the ice in the shaker. Add two ounces of rum, one ounce fresh lime juice, and 1/2 ounce simple syrup.
  2. Shake vigorously. Strain into a glass and serve.

Serve your classic daiquiri in a martini glass or a glass with an unexpected shape. Check dollar stores and department stores for some unusual glassware. Garnish the drink with a lime wedge if desired, and you've made a classic daiquiri.

To make a frozen daiquiri, you will need:

  • Rum
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Simple syrup
  • Maraschino liqueur
  • Ice
  • A blender
  • Glasses
  1. Set up your blender. Add two ounces of rum, 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice, 1/2 ounce simple syrup, a dash of maraschino liqueur and 1/2 cup ice.
  2. Blend until smooth. Pour into a martini or margarita glass and serve.

When making a frozen daiquiri, presentation is important. In addition to a straw, try decorations like drink umbrellas or paper flowers. When you make a frozen daiquiri, you can also add fruit for more flavor. Popular additions include strawberries (add 1/2 cup sliced strawberries with 1/4 ounce creme de framboise), peaches (1/2 cup sliced peaches with 1/2 ounce peach brandy) and pineapple (1/2 cup pineapple cubes). Add a garnish of the fruit used for a special presentation.
