Create your signature drink by learning how to make fruit infused vodka. Fruit soaked in vodka flavors the vodka. The fruit can be mixed with spices, herbs, or even flavored candy for a unique vodka taste. Create amazingly distinctive cocktails with homemade fruit infused vodka.
To make fruit infused vodka, you will need:
- Fruit, spices, or herbs
- Bottle or jar
- Prepare the bottle or jar. Choose a glass bottle or jar with a tight fitting lid that is large enough for the amount of vodka you plan to infuse. Wash the bottle or jar in hot soapy water and rinse in very hot water or run it through the dishwasher. Place the glass bottle or jar on a paper tower to air dry with the lid off.
- Choose your flavor. There is an almost endless list of flavors to choose from for vodka infusing that includes apple, peach, apricot, plum, strawberry, orange, lemon, lime, blueberry, raspberry and kiwi. Ginger, vanilla, spearmint, peppermint, cinnamon, rosemary, anise, cloves, skittles, peppermint candy and spicy hot cinnamon candy, can be mixed with fruit to create a unique flavor. Experiment by mixing and matching flavors. For instance, mix vanilla bean with raspberry or ginger with orange.
- Prepare the flavor ingredients. Wash and drain the fruit and cut into small pieces. Remove stems, seeds and pits from the fruit. Wash and drain herbs and gently crush the leaves. Slice vanilla beans or peppers lengthwise. Place the fruit, spices, or herbs in the bottom of the bottle or jar and pour vodka over to the top to begin the infusion. Seal the lid tight and store in a cool dark place to avoid direct sunlight. Infuse the vodka for between 2 and 14 days, depending on the strength and flavor you desire.
There are no set rules about the ratio of fruit, spice, or herbs to vodka. The more flavor ingredients you use the stronger the infusion will be. Start with a mixture and experiment from there. Like any other creative endeavor success is a matter of trial and error. The first effort to infuse vodka may not be your best. But keep experimenting until you create your favorite infused vodka flavor.
