Once you know how to make a Hemingway daiquiri, you can take a trip to Havana, Cuba without leaving your house. This tart and refreshing cocktail is great for steamy summer evenings, both in Havana or back at home stateside. Typically, you serve the Hemingway daiquiri up in a cocktail glass, but that's entirely up to you.
To make a Hemingway daiquiri you will need:
- Cocktail shaker
- Cocktail glass
- Light rum
- Maraschino liqueur
- Lime juice
- Grapefruit juice
- Lime wedge
- Add ice to the cocktail shaker. The ice will chill the drink in the shaker, then be strained off. Good cocktails are cold cocktails.
- Add two ounces of light rum, one-half ounce of maraschino liqueur, one ounce of lime juice and three ounces of grapefruit juice into the cocktail shaker. Cap the shaker, or cover with a clean glass, and shake for about ten seconds. You want to mix all the liquids together and give the ice a chance to cool everything down.
- Strain the Hemingway daiquiri into the cocktail glass. Use a cocktail strainer or a spoon to hold back all the ice.
- Garnish the cocktail with a lime wedge. The lime gives a nice color to the Hemingway daiquiri, and the drinker can add extra lime flavor if they wish.
Hemingway daiquiri doubled is known as a Papa Dobles. Simply add four ounces of light rum, instead of two. You can also make Hemingway daiquiris in a pitcher, straining out the ice as you pour into the cocktail glasses.
