Learning how to make a hockey equipment rack is an excellent project for those who enjoy displaying their hockey gear. A hockey equipment rack is both a great way to preserve the value of your hockey gear but they also make a great display case. A hockey equipment rack is easy to make with a little time and patience. If you’re ready to build your own hockey equipment rack, than take a look at the following list of items you’ll need to accomplish your project.
To make a hockey equipment rack, you’ll need the following:
- Electric drill
- Tape measure
- Wood glue
- Display carpeting
- Display hooks
- Construct the equipment rack. The first step to making a hockey equipment rack begins with your lumber and saw. Build a rack that will adequately house all of your hockey equipment. Your rack can be made in practically any shape that you desire, just make sure it’s going to be big enough to house all of your hockey gear. Once you’ve decided on a shape, cut out your lumber to make an open display rack. Drill screws through your lumber and use wood glue to strengthen the connections between each piece of lumber. The finished equipment rack needs to have a back with four sides: two opposing each other from top to bottom and two on the opposing ends.
- Installing the carpeting. After your rack is made, use display carpeting to cover the interior of your hockey equipment rack. This will give your equipment rack a nice finished look. To install the carpeting, place glue on the interior walls. Next, place your carpeting inside the equipment rack. Use a smooth object, such as a spare piece of wood, to work out any wrinkles that you find while installing your carpeting. Use a rag to clean any excess glue.
- Display your equipment. Now that your equipment rack is furnished with carpeting, place your display hooks on the interior walls. The display hooks should be big enough to adequately hold your equipment in place. At this point, it’s okay if you change your mind when it comes to placing your items on your rack. The display hooks are easy to remove and you won’t be able to see your mistakes due to the display carpeting. I would recommend using a plastic display hook that is installed using screws or nails. The display hooks that use an adhesive back won’t stick very well to your display carpet.
There are many different ways to customize your hockey equipment rack. If you have a favorite hockey team, you can place their colors within your hockey equipment rack using either paint or display carpeting. It’s also easy to paint the exterior walls of your display case if you choose to do so. Another nice option is the ability to be able to install a glass door on your hockey equipment rack. This door is easy to install once you have it cut to your specific dimensions. Just use metal hinges and install your glass door to the hinges. Once you’ve completed your equipment rack, stuff it with gear and enjoy it.
