How To Make Internet Explorer The Default Browser
Need to know how to make Internet Explorer the default browser on your machine? If you have downloaded a browser or program just to try it out, only to find that it removed Internet Explorer as your default browser, don't start uninstalling programs or loading backup copies of your system just yet. All you need to do is make Internet Explorer the default browser again. While not every reason to change your browser is nefarious, there are numerous programs out there whose sole intention is to hijack your computer to force you to pages you wouldn't normally go to. These programs will also change your default browser, often tricking you into agreeing to do so. Luckily, you can quickly and easily get Internet Explorer to be the browser that comes up by default when you access the internet.
- Open Internet Explorer. Double-click on the big blue "e" icon that should be included in the bottom left corner of your computer.
- Click on the "Tools" button on the right side of the toolbar. If you have a version of Internet Explorer before IE8, you will need to click on "View" here instead of "Tools." Choose "Internet Options" from the drop down menu, then click on the "Programs" tab at the top of the new window.
- Press the "Make Default" button at the very top of the window. You can also add a check mark next to "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser." This will warn you if you access the internet and Internet Explorer is not the default browser, along with giving you an easy way to restore Internet Explorer as the default browser. Click on "OK" to complete the process.
