How To Make Marriage Work
Here are some tips and strategies on how to make a marriage work. Couples usually marry with the intent to stay together forever, but these days, many marriages just don’t work out. A successful marriage requires more than love. It takes a lot of effort to make a marriage work.
- Show your mate how much you love him/her. Many couples get very busy after their wedding. Many times, a husband and wife have to work full time jobs outside the home. When they finally have time together, they are tired and irritable. To make a marriage work, a couple must spend quality time together. This can be done daily by setting aside at least 30 minutes to truly talk to each other. Also, every couple of weeks, schedule a date night. Go out and do something fun even if you are tired.
- Do nice things for your mate. You don’t have to plan big romantic escapades all the time. Little things matter. Letting your mate pick a movie or show to watch, giving her the last cookie, serving her, giving her a massage, and buying her little gifts all show your mate that you care and make them feel loved.
- Know how to handle arguments. Arguments are bound to arise in any relationship. Try to stay calm when arguments erupt, and take a break when needed. Don’t raise your voice or call your spouse names. Listen to your spouse’s point of view and don’t insist on being right. Be specific when stating your problems instead of making general statements such as “You NEVER listen to me” or “You ALWAYS get your way”.
These suggestions will help make a marriage work. Be respectful and kind, spend time together and keep your cool during an argument for a successful marriage.
