How To Make An MMA Training Program
If you are into mixed martial arts (MMA), knowing how to make an MMA training program will greatly increase your chances of success. MMA fighting is serious business, so if you intend to match up with a real opponent you will need to design a workout routine that pushes you to the edge. Buy the proper training equipment before you begin, such as headgear, gloves and a mouthpiece. Make sure you start out slow with an MMA training program, in order to avoid injury.
- Determine your goals and decide which training methods to use. Write down the number of days you can devote to an MMA training program, and then decide which workout you will do on each day. For example, for three days a week, you may want to lift weights and do roadwork; for two days, you may want to hit the punching bags; and finally, you may choose to spar one day a week. Set a time for each routine, and increase the amount once you are making progress.
- When you weight train, incorporate circuit training into your schedule. This will help increase your stamina and overall cardio. Design an MMA training program that uses moderate weights for high repetitions. Do muscle mass building on the days you do not circuit train.
- Hit the heavy bag and speed bag twice per week. Bag work is essential to making an MMA training program effective, and it can increase your power in a major way. Hit the big bag in three to five minute increments, and rest in between rounds just like you would in a real fight. Use the speed bag to increase your hand speed and overall stamina.
- Try to spar at least once every week. Find a partner who will push you and work on your grappling and escapes. Submissions are critical in an MMA training program, so make sure to try and learn a new move each session. If you can find a sparring partner who has more experience, you will progress at a much faster rate.
