Learning how to make a modern cocktail can cause a lot of excitement. Actually learning how to make any cocktail can do that, because once you know, you realize that you pay over $5 for one of these drinks that may cost only $1 for the maker. Pretty incredible to enjoy your own homemade cocktails without all the fuss.
To make a modern cocktail, you will need:
- A shaker
- Ice cubes
- Dark Rum
- Licorice Liqueur
- Lemon Juice
- Orange Bitters
- To start your modern cocktail you will want to have your shaker ready and filled half way with ice cubes. Your shaker is important because just mixing this drink will not do it any justice. The ice cubes are important because all of these ingredients together should not be shaken warm, and once they are chilled they should stay that way!
- With your shaker ready, you’re going to want to start adding your liquor. First add 1 ½ oz of scotch, 1 tsp of your dark rum, and then finally a half tsp of your licorice liqueur. When you’ve done this you’re only half way finished with your modern cocktail, so make sure you continue with this delicious recipe.
- Now that you finally have your liquor ready to go, add the different flavors to make this drink a modern cocktail. Start with your lemon juice and add about ½ of a teaspoon (keep this ready because you may want to add a touch more later). To complete your modern cocktail, make sure you don’t forget your orange bitters—no more than two dashes. This is quite bitter so you will not want to use anymore.
Now its time to shake, shake, shake. You officially have made your modern cocktail, and it is ready to be tasted by you and all of your friends. Always feel free to go over your ingredients if you feel like its missing something and add a little of each if you like, but don’t change it too much because then this might turn into a different drink.
